D. Evolution is changes in the gene pool's allele frequencies.

From http://anthro.palomar.edu/synthetic/synth_2.htm
"Evolution is simply a change in frequencies of alleles in the gene pool of a population."

The Hardy Weinberg principle is that if a population has a stagnant gene pool, in other words, if the same type of people are only available to repopulate it, then the genotype frequencies will be the same and not change. I'd have to go with D.

I'm also going with D.

The work and Hardy and Weinberg (and Castle) resulting in a more *quantitative* definition of evolution in terms of population genetics.

In other words, we can now talk about the *speed* of evolution in any given case in terms of the spread of alleles in the gene pool of a population.
