The World Wide Fund for Nature does not recognize "wetland" as a biome, and most sources I can find don't either. Why is that?

This site from the University of California calls wetlands a biome, they just renamed it "freshwater". The World Wide Fund for Nature sounds like it has an agenda, I wouldn't trust them even if they did call wetlands a biome.

A biome is defined by its climate and vegetation. A wetland can occur in any climate.
