SCENARIO #5
The restaurant was packed for the lunch rush, and Lee had mislaid his pen. He decided that rather than use precious time to locate another pen, he would just repeat his customers’ food orders to himself for the few seconds it took to get to the kitchen where he could enter them into the computer. This worked relatively well as long as no one asked Lee a question while he was on his way to the kitchen.

SCENARIO #6
Brothers Jasper and Randall were reminiscing about their days together in junior high school. Jasper was certain it was he who got hit in the mouth by the softball, because he was the one who was usually outside playing sports and getting bruised up. Randall spent his time in the house working on his model trains. It was only when Randall produced photographs showing that he was the one who had been hit that Jasper admitted that maybe he just remembered that a lot of time had been spent in the doctor’s office that day and assumed it must have been he himself who was injured.

Hi Catracho

Firstly, here are some definitions that might help with each scenario. Notice I did not include all the memory concepts listed because many felt implausible to this situation. I highlight what I think might be the answer because it was only after Randall provided the photo that Jasper recalled the actual memory. Examples of retrieval cues include photos, music, songs, sounds, places, etc.

Mood congruent memory: Mood-congruent memory is when one memory can bring more happy memories and change you mood in a better or worse way.

Motivated forgetting: Motivated forgetting is when people unknowingly revise their own histories. If people want to protect themselves, or others, from the past or a situation, they will recreate their history to better fit their standards and what would be acceptable.

Constructive memory: Constructive memory is a process by which we first recall a generalized schema and then add in specific details.

Retrieval cues: Retrieval cues are stimuli that help you retrieve a certain memory.

Retroactive interference: Retroactive interference occurs when old memories are changed by new ones, sometimes so much that the original memory is forgotten. This is when newly learned information interferes with and impedes the recall of previously learned information.

Episodic memories: Remembering the last time you remembered it, which means that every time you think about it, something is changed.

State dependent memory: State-dependent memory or state-dependent learning is the phenomenon through which memory retrieval is most efficient when an individual is in the same state of consciousness as they were when the memory was formed.
