Animism, dualism, and monism are all concepts related to the mind-body relationship and the nature of existence. Let’s explore their commonalities:

Dualism proposes that the mind and body exist as separate entities. In this view, humans have both a nonphysical mind and a physical body/brain.
- Descartes’ Cartesian dualism suggests a two-way interaction between mental and physical substances, with the mind controlling the body and vice versa
- Despite their distinctness, dualism acknowledges the existence of mental states and consciousness.

Monism, on the other hand, holds that everything we perceive is a manifestation of a single absolute entity. There are two main types of monism:
- Materialism: Materialists believe that only the material world (physical matter like the brain) exists. Consciousness is considered a function of the brain.
- Phenomenalism (Subjective Idealism): Phenomenalists argue that physical objects and events are reducible to mental objects. Ultimately, only mental objects (the mind) exist.
- Monism challenges the idea of dual separation between mind and body, emphasizing a more unified perspective.

Commonalities: Both dualism and monism address the mind-body problem, albeit in different ways.
They recognize the existence of mental processes, thoughts, and consciousness, even if they differ in their ontological stance

In summary, while animism, dualism, and monism have distinct implications, they all contribute to our understanding of the complex relationship between mind and body.
