I have been dreading the MCAT since I decided I might want to go to Med School.  I am most worried about the fact that I have not taken a biology class since 2003 and I may be a bit rusty.  However, I received the biology award at graduation and I have always done very well in bio.  MUST I take the MCAT?  Would it be beneficial?  Might it be a hinderance?

Yes you must take the MCAT if you want to go to medical school. You should brush up on those old classes as well.

YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE MCAT. no way around it. don't worry about bio. concentrate on anatomy, chemistry, and medical terminology

No, you don't have to take it, but then you won't be a doctor.

If the MCAT freaks you out, maybe you aren't cut out for the rigors of medical school.

Get a few good MCAT review books and study.  If you still feel overwhelmed, look at other career options.  Medical school is no picnic, and the MCAT pales in comparison to what you'll encounter as your medical education progresses.
