I don't understand the formula at all. the problem is:
convert 7i -13j to polar coordinates.
Can someone explain how to do this? I've googled this but no where can I find this form of the equasion to solve. I'm also can't figure out the cosine tangent sine step that you have to have in there.
I have a math test tomorrow and this'll be on it, I really need to figure this out.

I'm assuming that 7 i - 13 j is the vector (7 , 13).

so polar coordinates are instead of x and y, theta and r, where theta is the counterclockwise angle to get from 0 radians to that point, and r is the length of the vector.

so r = length of (7 , 13 ) = sqrt (7^2 + 13^2 ) = sqrt (49 + 169) = sqrt(218) = 14.76

so we can make a triangle
...........................|
...........................| 13
theta___________|
 ...........7

so we have tan (theta) = 13/7

theta = arctan (13/7) = 1.076 radians
