I know that a person's immune system is very important and taking drugs to suppress it will cause increased risks of more serious infections as well as cancer.

But how much do these enhance the risk in an otherwise healthy patient (particularly hand transplant recipients)? Are we talking about a person getting a relatively minor 3% (or something like that) increased risk of infection or a person getting a dramatic 300% increased risk of infection?

I was just guestimating with the numbers, but can someone give me a rough idea how bad it would be?

There is an increased risk of skin cancer with immunosuppressant meds.  It is more about the duration of exposure than the strength of the dose itself.  Anti-rejection drugs do not bring an increased risk of other form of cancer though.
