a 2.85g sample of an unknown cholorfluorocarbon is decomposed and produceds 564mL of chlorine gas at a pressure of 752 mmHg and a temperature of 299k. What is the present of chlorine ( bymass) in the unknown chlorfluorocarbon?

First we count the mole of chlorine. In assumption of ideal gas, we use PV = nRT
n = PV/RT
= 752/760 * 564/1000 /0.082/299
= 0.02276 mol
mass = n * Mw
= 0.02276* (35.5*2)
=1.616 gr
% mass = 1.616/2.85 *100%
= 56.7 %
