a. The main function of peroxisomes is to rid the cell of toxic substances like hydrogen peroxide, or other metabolitesembrane, not produce ATP energy.

b. Peroxisomes contain one membrane.

c. Although peroxisomes do divide independently like chloroplasts and mitochondia, they do not have their own DNA; proteins are transported in, fully assembled, after being manufactured on free ribosomes.

e. It was formerly believed that peroxisomes were formed by the smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER). It is now known that peroxisomes are self-assembling, since their "life-span" is only a day. The process of reproduction is called peroxisomal biogenesis. The proteins that are found in the membrane of the peroxisome are actually made in the ribosome as stated above.
