isometric contraction is when tension builds, but the muscle does not change length.

so the muscle still shortens, but not fully.

think of holding a glass of water for example. you bring it up (concentric contraction) but then hold it...the holding part is the isometric contraction.

The binding occurs and then holds, it does not bind further or decrease in length.
The Sarcomere length stays the same and there already is some binding between the filaments.
