I am dissecting a chicken leg and can't find the endosteum?Neutral Face I found the periosteum layer on the outside of the bone. Is it supposed to look like the periosteum only inside? Please help, very confused!

Hey Teresa,

Periosteum is the dense fibrous connective tissue around the surface of the bone not covered by cartilage - protects the bone and permits the attachment of ligaments and tendons.

The endosteum is the layer of connective tissue lining the marrow cavity.

You have a picture, I could point it out.

Thanks so much everyone! I think I will try again tomorrow. I just couldn't see any thing between the composite bone and the marrow.

Okay, I know its been several days. I've dissected and dissected. I still am not sure about the endosteum. Can it be detached form the inner part of the bone and is it the same thickness as the periosteum? I give up! I can easily peal away the periosteum.

It is the outer layer of the inner part of the bone.
