I had some really bad, sad news about my family this weekend. I found out my brother has pancreatic cancer. It has spread and doesn't look good. It's a shock to my family. What do you do after hearing a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer? Is there hope? From everything I've read it is a downward hill.

I'm scared for my father most of all. His first wife died of breast cancer and now his son has cancer. He is older and I want to give him hope. I just need to find it.

I'm sorry, but the median survival is 2-6 months.
The doctor should have explained this to him.

Unfortunately, survival rates for pancreatic cancer are low, however some newer medications, such as FOLFIRINOX, are more effective than others.

However, everyone is different, and some people do indeed pull through. Ultimately, all you can do is try.
