Can you explain the Coriolis Effect and how it causes Hurricanes? And also, why do hurricanes in the Northern Hemisphere rotate counter clockwise and in the Southern Hemisphere they turn clockwise? Can you explain this simply but thoroughly? Thanks!

It's a complicated subject, so I might skip stuff to simplify it.  But it all has to do with the Earth spinning, and being a ball, instead of a nice flat surface.

If you fly around the world on the equator, you will travel a bit over 25,000 miles.  But if you fly around the world at 45 degrees latitude, then you would only go about 17,000 miles.  This means that the air at the equator covers 8,000 more miles every day than the air at 45 degrees.  This causes turbulent winds, and sometimes spinning storms like hurricanes.
