The Answer is

e. the inward force of gravity and the outward gas pressure force

Hydrostatic equilibrium occurs when compression, due to gravity, is balanced by a pressure gradient, which creates a force in the opposite direction. In stars, the pressure gradient appears as a result of the huge quantity of thermal energy

e. the inward force of gravity and the outward gas pressure force

Gravity is trying to pull down the star and collapse it. But at the same time, the gas pressure force (which is the energy released from thermonuclear fusion) is pushing outwards with the same force. This results in Hydrostatic Equilibrium, a stable state, in the star.
