i am looking at this book seeing how they solved this and the book is so complicated especially since we dont use it.. but the example given is calculate the atomic weight of Br .. we are given the mass number of 79 and % abundance ( i have no idea what this is the teacher never went over something like that) 50.5 .. i am completely lost someone help please!!!!

It sounds like your teacher is talking about calculating the average atomic weight based on the atomic weights of the different isotopes of Br.  The % abundance would mean the percentage abundance of each isotope.  

Mass number = # of protons + neutrons, and each isotope will have a different number of neutrons....giving it a different mass number.

Look in your book to see if they talk about the isotopes of Br.
