It is no surprise that it takes a while for evolution to be noticed in a population. Random point mutations must first take place, which require nonrandom mating to happen and result in natural selection of the “fittest” individuals of a population. Over time these individuals influence the population’s survival as a whole and pass on superior genes, which allow for gene flow. As these individuals continue to reproduce and move outside their original place of birth the genes get passed along to nearby population of the same species and allow for genetic drift.
