In an 8 inch square cake pan and a 9 inch square cake pan, what is the difference in volume each pan will hold? Assume each pan is 2 inches high. Show step by step work. Include correct units with your solution.

V_diff = 2 * [9² - 8²]
V_diff = 2 * [81 - 64]
V_diff = 2 * 17

V8 = 8 * 8 * 2 =128 cu in
V9 = 9 * 9 * 2 =162 cu in
V9 / V8 =81/64 = 1.265625
so the 9 in pan is a little more and 25% larger

difference = volume of larger pan minus volume of smaller pan

9 * 9 * 2 - 8 * 8 * 2 = 34 cubic inches
