Electric energy travels in a closed circuit to light a bulb. How is the circuit affected if you open the switch?

What do you mean exactly?  When the switch is opened the electrons can no longer flow through the system and light the bulb.  I'm not sure I understand the question.

A current flows means there is a motion of electrons in a particular direction (not random motion). In a circuit the electrons cannot accumulate at any point. So to have a current one needs a closed circuit. When the switch is open there is no current and thus no light. The elctrons move randomly without any effective direction of motion.

The electric energy is in the form of electrons flow in circuit.  The domestic circuit normally gets the power from substations and substations get it from power stations.  In the event of opening the switch (removing power from bulb which is small load), the current flow stops to this particular circuit but effective power available in circuit increases. You must have noticed some time that increasing the load in circuit decreases the voltage (hence the power) sometimes.
