multiply each term in the first factor with each term in the second factor

so 2x( x+8) + 5 (x+8)

2x^2 +16x +5x +40

2x^2 + 21x +40

You simply distribute the first into the other such as like this....
2x(x+8)+ 5(x+8) Then add the common turns together.
The answer to this would be 2x squared+ 21x+40

FOIL:

(a + b)(c + d) = ac + ad + bc + bd

(2x + 5)(x + 8)
= 2x^2 + 16x + 5x + 40
= 2x^2 + 21x + 40
