the source vibrates (cause) and by doing so creates sound waves (effect).

Sound is vibration, period.

So, sound originates at the source.  It radiates out, like a ripple in a pond.  The further from the source, the more diffused the sound becomes, reducing its volume and clarity.  When the source discontinues vibrating, the sound eventually will die out, to an immobile observer.

The more vibration in the source, the louder the sound.  The faster vibration of the source, the higher pitch of the sound.

The source vibrates. That is the cause of everything that happens.

The vibrating source transmits energy to the air in the form of sound waves.

The sound waves reach the ear of the listener and vibrate the ear drum, from which the sensation of sound is transmitted to the brain.

The sense of hearing the sound is the eventual effect, resulting from the cause (the vibration of the source).

movement of energy from one medium to another.... if it is sound you refer to....it is mechanical energy that travels from one medium (source) to another (sound cannot travel through a vaccum..it needs matter in its various states)

the source usually is something which is found in nature(or man made).... a vibrating element (with piezo-electric capabilities)...these elements transform electrical energy into mechanical energy (and visa versa).

when vibrating...it tranforms this energy and displaces the matter in the second medium..thus producing waves which travel through it.
