I read that the future can affect the past according to quantum mechanics and some experiments done with "beam splitters".

What does that mean?   Does it mean that past, present, and the future are just figments of our imagination?

It's not quite that simple.  But some experiments have shown that if you send a single photon through a system which has two possible paths, the result at the end when the two paths combine will be an interference pattern of both paths, even though the photon only traveled down one of the paths.  It's like the photon has "knowledge" of the structure of the system.
