I have to answer this for a science question. So lets say scientists discover a new type of animal ...
-how would they check to see if it uses photosynthesis?
-how would they check to see if it uses respiration?

Easy- they would see if the "animal" had chloroplasts in the cell, and if they were connected to the stupefyingly complex photosynthesis reactions.

animals dont have chloroplast, so they cant do photosynthesis.

If the "Animal" is green and has no mouth, nose or gills And its green, then it probably uses photosynthesis.

btw- Plants, photosysnthesis.  Animals, respiration.

Generally, both plants and animals (and most other living things) respire, whilst only plants photosynthesize. You could look at what the organism appears to eat; photosynthesizing organisms need not consume anything. Finally, you could look at the cells, where mitochondria or mesosomes would be present for respiration and chloroplasts for photosynthesis.
