Having a little trouble with this problem:

When a certain air-filled parallel-plate capacitor is connected cross a battery, it acquires a charge (on each plate) of 140 micro coulombs. While the battery connection is maintained, a dielectric slab is inserted into and fills the region between the plates. this results in the accumulation of an additional charge of 230 micro coulombs on each plate. what is the dielectric constant of the dielectric slab?

divide 230/140

It's (230+140) / 140

The dielectric constant is the ratio of the capacitances with & without the slab.

Capacitance is proportional to charge: C = Q/V.
Since V is the same with & without the slab, capacitance (and therefore dielectric constant) is proportional to the amount of charge with & without the slab.

Hope this helps.
