I'm not sure we'll ever be able to 'master' it. The Higgs boson is the particle corresponding to the Higg's field. This field permeates all of space and is impossible to get away from. I don't think we'll ever be able to change its properties. Doing so would alter the whole of physics! This is because as well as giving things mass, it's responsible for the things like the differentiation between electromagnetism and the weak nuclear force. Maybe in the distant future though...never say never guess.
