1... A patient’s family is not limited to persons related by birth, adoption, or marriage. The patient may even express that they include a pet as a family member. A person’s family is anyone who gives the patient support or on whom they rely for any type of need. The nurse considers the husband and daughters as the individuals who can be called upon at a time of need. The person does not need to be living in the same home. The nurse recognizes that the mother in a nursing home may not be available for patient support.
