A terminally ill patient is receiving palliative care. The nurse recognizes that the purpose of this type of care is to
1. alleviate suffering and promote quality of life.
2. decrease pain and prevent medical complications.
3. control side effects of illness while postponing death.
4. withdraw all medical care to allow natural death.

Hospice care, care at the end of life, always includes palliative care. But you may receive palliative care at any stage of a disease. The goal is to make you comfortable and improve your quality of life.
