Parental types generally have the largest number of offspring compared to the recombinants for a particular set of genes. Does this mean that crossing over does not occur in the parental types? Explain your answer (2pts)

First, distinguish between what both terms mean. Parental-type offsprings means that the children have the exact same genome as the parents, whereas recombinant means that they have a combination of characteristics of both mom and dad. This is usually the case in insects like flies. This does not mean that recombination does not occur. Rather, sometimes certain genes are linked so that when crossing over does occur, both genes that are linked are crossed-over at the same time, and in turn, are expressed as they are in the parent. Similarly, sometimes all alleles located in a particular chromosome show complete linkage in one of the parents (i.e. the male).
