3.   In formulating a model for the structure of the universe on the basis of his General Theory of Relativity, Einstein introduced a “cosmological constant” to correct the theoretical model for what he thought was an incorrect prediction about the universe. How did he think that this cosmological constant would manifest itself?

(a)   As a form of energy which, if applied on its own, would make the universe expand; -- a form of anti-gravity.
(b)   As extra “gravity” which would hold the universe against continuous expansion.
(c)   As a large number of “white holes” which would contribute matter to an expanding universe to maintain constant density, as required by the Cosmological Principle, in a continuous creation universe.
