1 -- Because alcohol can increase the nephrotoxicity of some drugs, discourage alcohol ingestion. Additional teaching includes avoiding exposure to nephrotoxins, particularly those found in over-the-counter products, preventing infection and other major stressors that can slow healing, monitoring weight, blood pressure and pulse, manifestations of relapse, continuing dietary restrictions and knowing when to contact the physician.
