What are the benefits of genetic engineering versus the potential risks?  What are your personal thoughts on genetic engineering? Do you think genetic engineering provides useful information for the scientific investigation of our natural world or do you think that we should not "mess with Mother Nature"? Explain and support your position.

Take a look at that: https://biology-forums.com/index.php?topic=57714.msg160450#msg160450 Slight Smile

I think, everyone knows that genetic engineering could provide many benefits to humanity if used properly (improved food production, new medicines ect.)
However, everyone also knows that genetic engineering could be very dangerous if not used appropriately.

I think there are two problems/threats about genetic engineering (they are also explained at the link I provided)
1) If something goes wrong, the consequences would be much worse than any other natural or technological disaster.
2) People who have the necessary knowledge about genetic engineering are very few. Only they can judge about the results/consequences of a genetic experiment. Since these people are very few, the possibilities for them to make a mistake are higher.
