I'm doing my lab and I have a metal (K) and I have to determine whether it's bonded with a carbonate (CO3) or a bicarbonate (HCO3). If it's bonded to the bicarbonate, would the ratio be 1:1 or 1:2? If it was bonded with the plain CO3, wouldn't that make the ration 2:1 there since 2 K are needed?

The formulas are

KHCO3  (bi carbonate or hydrogen carbonate ) mole ratio  1:1   {K+  and HCO3-}

K2CO3 has mole ratio 2:1 { 2 x K+ and CO3 2-}

Yes, but are you going to have to find out with a practical test which it is?
One way would be to heat. The hydrogencarbonate would release CO2 but not the other.
 2KHCO3 ---------> K2CO3 + CO2 + H2O
