a) The lobes of the pituitary influence other glands and are altered by the function of these glands through a feedback mechanism. DESCRIBE the role of the pituitary in a feedback with one other gland. (3marks)

b) In some individuals a disorder results in normal homeostatic conditions being affected. choose one example of a disorder and DESCRIBE the symptoms that would be contrary to normal homeostasis. (2marks)

c ) Advances in scientific knowledge have resulted in many new technologies that have improved the diagnosis and/or treatment of many medical disorders, IDENTIFY and EXPLAIN a technology that can be used in the diagnosis of an endocrine disorder and/or treatment of the disorder. (2marks)

1. The nervous system has a primary role in the integration and control over all human body systems including the endocrine system.

IDENTIFY the region of the brain and DESCRIBE how through the nervous system it is involved with the function of the endocrine system and its regulation of the endocrine system. Explain using and example. (5marks)

Blood tests with a blood sugar level above 125mg before breakfast or above 200mg after a meal may signal type 1 diabetes. The doctor also administers a urine test to check for high levels of ketones, which means that there's a lack of insulin in the body to regulate blood sugar levels. Screening for type 2 diabetes include an oral glucose tolerance test and a fasting blood glucose test. To check for high hormone levels, the doctor does a physical examination and other blood tests. High levels of T3 or T4, which affect your metabolism, and low levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone that produce T3 and T4, indicate hyperthyroidism. Blood tests also diagnose hypothyroidism, which results if you have high levels of the thyroid-stimulating hormone and low levels of the T4 hormone in the bloodstream.
