3 -- Flexion and adduction of the hip with flexion of the knee frequently occurs when the patient lies in bed with knees bent and thighs not abducted. Internal or external rotation with abduction does not reflect types of contractures. Foot drop is a problem for all patients confined to bed; hyperextension of the knee is not normally possible.
