substitute a number for x.  to keep it simple substitute 1.
6(1)-2(1+1)=  2
-2+4(1)=2
so far they are equal just to make sure, substitute in 2
6(2)-2(1+2)=6
-2+4(2)=6

yay it works!!!

equations are equivalent.

6x - 2 (1 + x ) = -2 + 4x
6x-2-2x=-2+4x   (i distributed the -2)
4x-2=-2+4x          (simplified)
4x-2 = 4x-2

sooo yes that proves they're equal!
