MG would physiologically affect muscle contraction. There is a decrease in acetylcholine receptor sites at the neuromuscular junction. Someone with this disease would have weakness of their skeletal muscles. The eyes and eyelids, chewing, swallowing, speaking and even breathing,(Lewis,et al). Frequent rest periods during the day would be necessary for a patient with MG. Medications such as anticholineterase drugs, corticosteroids and immunosuppressants are used for collaborative care of this patient. The patient's Thymus gland may also be removed surgically as part of the treatment of this autoimmune disease.
