identification of a compound by mass relationship
Question Details
uknown substance Na3HCO3, Na2CO3, KHCO3, K2CO3
Reaction 1 is 2 NAHCO3 yields Na2CO3+H2O+CO2
Reaction 2 is Na2CO3+2H+2Cl yields 2NaCl+H2O+co2

A student attempts to identify an unknown by the method used in the experiment. She finds that when she heated a sample weighing 0.5015g the mass went down apreciably, to 0.3432 g. When the product was converted to a chloride, the mass went up, to 0.3726g.

what are the two compunds in the unknown?

write the chemical equation for the overall reaction that would occur when the original compound was converted to a chloride. If the compound is a hydrogen carbonate, use the sum of the reaction1 and 2. If the sample is a carbonate, use reaction2. write the equation for a sodium salt and then for a potassium salt.

how many moles of the chloride salt would be produced from one mole of orginial compound?

how many grams of the chloride salt would be produced from one molar mass of original compound?
