Is it gold or silver?  Why?

Are there any non-elemental metals that are better conductors?  What is truly the best electrical conductor at room temperature?

Gold is the best. But it's so freaking expensive to use it as wire.

Gold is one period below silver in the periodic table. Gold has more weakly bounded d electrons than silver to move about freely to conduct electricity better.

It's silver [Ag].

I don't really know why but according to Thomas Edison, his experiment - the light bulb one - shows that silver is a very good conducter of electricity, except that it is very expensive, so he then found out that tungsten is also quite good. Hence, tungsten is mostly used in light bulbs.

Personally, I don't think gold can conduct electricity, can it?

The best electrical conductor are superconductors. But it is not an element. Among other metals Aluminium, copper, gold ,platinum, silver etc ar very good conductors. But to use gold , silver and platinum is not at all economic. So common mancan afford only copper ad aluminium
