All species are affected by Habitat fragmentation. When a species of animal is forced to live and reproduce in a small area and can't leave that area. Its chances of reproducing and leaving that area are reduced. this may cause over-population, increase in diseases, genetic problems, and the lack of food/water. Normally animals used to be able to travel long distances to new habitat, and could find new food sources, it could also spread its genetics around. But, with farmers using as much land as they can to produce food or crops, and the elimination of fence rows and places for the wildlife to move from one place to another, this places limitations on how far an animal can travel. This concept is also known as " The Island Theory" in which the small areas of land are like islands surrounded by large areas of land that animals can't travel over. If they did they would be subjected to predation by hawks, eagles, foxes, coyotes, and other predatory animals.
