1,4,5 -- Kegel exercises can strengthen the perineal muscle tone, minimize urinary leakage, and minimize uterine prolapsed. Proper perineal care is essential with stress incontinence to minimize skin irritation and the potential for infection. Use of perineal pads allows the patient to return to her normal daily activities. Reducing or eliminating caffeine actually can reduce urinary frequency and urgency. Estrogen supplements can improve perineal muscle tone in postmenopausal women.
