Transcription - the process of using DNA as a template and making RNA

Reverse transcription - the process of using RNA as a template to make DNA -> used by viruses.  Viruses carry RNA instead of DNA and in order to infect, they have an enzyme that makes DNA that can then integrate itself into its host DNA.
