c) Spermatocytes undergo meiosis before mitosis occurs
d) Spermatids undergo mitosis prior to forming sperm by meiosis

The unequal division of cytoplasm in oogenesis produces

1.

The answer is C

There are two types of spermatocytes: primary and secondary.  A primary spermatocyte undergoes Meiosis 1 to form two secondary spermatocytes.  Each of the secondary spermatocytes then undergo Meiosis 2 to form two spermatids (4 spermatids in total).  The spermatids (or sperm) then undergo mitosis producing billions of sperm.

2.

The answer is B

The primary oocyte undergoes Meiosis 1 to produce a big secondary oocyte and a small polar body, known as the first polar body.  The secondary oocyte then undergoes Meiosis 2 to produce a big cell called an ootid and a second polar body.  The ootid then differentiates into an ovum.
