Let the floor space occupied by copper be x.
Floor space occupied by zinc = 2x + 500
Total floor space = x + 2x + 500
∴   x + 2x + 500 = 9500
   3x = 9000
   x = 3000
The floor space occupied by copper is 3000 square metres.
