Math has never really been my main subject .But I was wondering how I would solve an equation like this:
2(4a-12)+3a=6a+1
Im not really sure where to start on it first . I tryed asking my teacher and I still don't understand what she is talking about .

2(4a-12)+3a=6a+1

First multiply everything out
8a-24+3a=6a+1

Now add together like terms on each side

11a-24=6a+1

Now subtract 6a from both sides so that it is only on one side
5a-24=1

Subtract -24 from both sides

5a=25

Divide both sides by 5

a=5

2(4a-12)+3a=6a+1

8a - 24 + 3a = 6a + 1 {distribute the 2 on the left}

11a - 24 = 6a + 1 {combine 8a & 3a on the left}

5a - 24 = 1 {subtract 6a from both sides}

5a = 25 {add 24 to both sides}

a = 5 {divide both sides by 5}
