At the core of today's capitalist economy is the corporation, an organization with a legal existence, including rights and liabilities, apart from that of its members. Most of Canada's corporations are small, but the largest corporations (small in number) dominate Canada's economy. Economic concentration creates conglomerates, that is, giant corporations composed of many smaller corporations. Conglomerates make up only 1 percent of all businesses in Canada but generate more than one-third of all business income and employ about one-quarter of the workforce. Speculations regarding the future will vary.
