The Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Ranges (AMDR) are ranges of intakes for energy-yielding nutrients that are associated with reduced risk of chronic disease while providing adequate intakes of essential nutrients. The AMDR are expressed as a percentage of total energy (Calorie) intake. Each AMDR has an upper and lower boundary. If we consume nutrients above or below the range, there is a potential for increased risk for chronic disease and for increased risk of consuming inadequate levels of nutrients essential for health. The AMDR for adults for carbohydrate, fat and protein are 45–65%, 20–35%, and 10–35%, respectively.
