Describe in your own words what you hear in this section relative to the time characteristics and pitch aspects. What makes the tanam section sound different from the preceding alapana section? (Answers should vary.)

What will be an ideal response?

As in the preceding alapana section, an improvised melody continues with a series of phrases which include strong plucking of drone strings.
Also as in the alapana, the melody gradually ascends/speeds up and then gradually descends/slows down.
However, the tanam section has a strong sense of beat which is lacking in the free-flowing, non-metric alapana section
