How do you respond to this type of artwork and others that depict disturbing events? Does this type of artwork challenge your definition of art? Why or why not?”

Hey there

Warhol expresses one of the traditional roles of the artist, in that he gives visible form to ideas, philosophies, and feelings. Warhol arranged the subject matter for emotional impact. He uses compositional elements as repetition, color, balance, and design.

We know that the world of art is vast, because different artist have different cultures and they have to respond to different ways in the world. We can respond to the artistic work by the process of critical thinking. Here the Andy Warhol's Race riot is depicted. He has shown the events of May 1963,Birmingham,Alabama.

Here the Police Commissioner Bull Connor employed attack dogs and fire hoses to disperse the civil rights demonstrators led by Reverend Martin Luther King,Junior. The artist Andy Warhol plays a traditional role to helpus understand the world in a new and innovative way. This art make a visual record of the people, time, place and events. This is actually very much different from other kinds of art.

Generally Art is defined as a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts, expressing the author's imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. They give us information about physical expression of creativity found in human societies and cultures. But rather than the creativity in the human culture here it depicts the riots, protests and attacks that happened during that event in 1963.
