Mandy has developed Type 2 diabetes mellitus.  She has heard that her pancreas doesn't work at all. Did she receive correct information? Briefly explain.

Diabetes mellitus is associated with the production of insulin. In the pancreas, insulin is produced by pancreatic islet cells known as beta cells. There are other cells in the pancreatic islets known as alpha cells; these cells produce an antagonist to insulin known as glucagon. In addition to these pancreatic islet cells, the pancreas also has enzyme-producing acinar cells which function in the digestive system. So, Mandy did not receive correct information about her pancreas. Her pancreas may, in fact, produce enough insulin. However, the insulin receptors on her cells may have become resistant to the hormone
