How were absolute monarchs entitled to godly obedience?

  A) If the absolute monarch was Catholic, the pope would have crowned that monarch and ascribed godly power to him.
  B) As had been longstanding policy, kings were chosen as God's actual representative over the people in a governmental context and crowned by the pope or religious authority. Therefore, they were entitled to the same obedience as God himself.
  C) This was only applicable to Catholic monarchs, as they were appointed by the pope as a representative of God.
  D) This was only applicable to Protestants, as the patriarch in the Catholic schema was the pope not the king.
  E) This was no longer true after the Protestant Reformation, as all kings were earthly beings.
