The rice genome is 3.9×108 bp. You wish to design a primer to amplify a specific gene in the genome.

In general, what length of oligonucleotide would be sufficient to amplify a single unique sequence? To simplify your calculation, assume that all bases occur with an equal frequency.

3.9x 10^8 (1/4)^N=1

(1/4)^N= 1/3.9x10^8

N(log1/4)=log 1/3.9x10^8

N-.602= -8.59106

-8.59106/-.602 = 14.3

the question asks general and i only have one attempt left so would the answer be 14?

thank you for reading and anyone that can help
